Area schools host local spelling bees. Winners from the local spelling bees attend the Telegraph Herald Regional Spelling Bee in March. The Regional Spelling Bee champion receives a trip to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee finals near Washington, D.C.
The award honors local citizens in recognition of achievement, leadership and commitment to make a significant contribution to the community and its people. The honoree is featured in the Telegraph Herald on New Year’s Day and a reception is held in their honor.

Tri-State Farm Families of the Year is an awards event. Nominations are submitted for Farm Families in each of the following categories, Grain, Livestock, Dairy and Organic. A committee chooses a family from each category and they receive an award at the yearly Tri-State Farm Families of the Year event.
